What is Further Education?
Further education is education after Year 11 when students have completed their GCSEs usually at age 16. Further education can be more specialised than secondary school education as learners study fewer things and may even only be studying and working in one very specific role (such as with an apprenticeship) or specific course related to one career or subject specialism such as Cabin Crew, for instance.
Further education is often considered more advanced than secondary school education because the qualifications that you acquire as a part of further education tend to be Level 3 qualifications. Level 3 qualifications include A-Levels, BTECs and some apprenticeships, however, there are also Level 2 qualifications that can be taken as part of further education. Additionally, some FE colleges now offer foundation courses that are a stepping sone to higher education (university level).
